Big Apple Little Seed
She’s Beauty and She’s Grace…
My move to New York City is the best decision I’ve ever made. I literally decided within two-weeks that I would move and so I did with absolutely no plan. New York has allowed me to reinvent myself and give birth to the person I was created to be. I will forever be thankful to NYC for all the growth it’s instilled in me and endurance to keep plugging along. I could go on forever about why I love NYC so much; however, it’s important that I also state the challenges of living here. NYC will provide you with heaven on earth, but prepare to be hazed beforehand. Every aspect of NYC is survival of the fittest, and coming from Louisiana I faced major culture shock. I wasn’t adequately prepared for the difficulties that accompany every thing you do in the City.
Housing, job searching, networking, shopping, transportation, and so on are all opportunities for you to get ripped off if you aren’t careful. I came to NYC very trusting, but now I am very cautious when making decisions. I moved to the City with no family, friends, or contacts to get me by. I dove right in and embraced the new culture. I made a lot of mistakes, but I learned a lot of lessons. My hope is that from my experience you’ll be better prepared for what the City may throw at you. If nothing else have a laugh at a day in the life of a 20-something year old surrounded by sharks just trying to swim.
